Košice-South city district

The Košice-South city district has 23 representatives in its Local Council. They operate in five committees (1. financial, 2. social, 3. environmental, public order and regional development, 4. Culture, sport, youth and the promotion of local-government) and in one special commitee for protection of public interest in the work of civil servants and local councillors.

The activities of the City Hall are directed according to the Organisational Order of City Hall for the Košice-South city district.

The education of children and youth is ensured in 6 preschools, 4 primary schools, 2 gymnasiums – an 8-year gymnasium and a sports-oriented one, and 10 secondary and trade schools (a Secondary Healthcare School, a Secondary Police Force School, an Associated Secondary School, a Hotel Academy, Trade Schools, etc…)

The city district is also home of the drafting workplace of the Slovak Agricultural University in Nitra, the Faculty of Business and Management, the State Language school and Primary Art School focused on music, drama and creative arts.

The Košice-South city district also has “Južan” (“Southerner”), a modern cultural community center located at number 4 Smetanova Street, where residents from the whole city come to enjoy a variety of cultural and communal events. The large community hall is utilized for seminars, training sessions, conferences, community events, entertainment and competitions.

The city district manages its own multipurpose playing fields for a number of sporting events for children and young people. The pride of the city district is the Triton swimming pool on Rastislavova Street, with the three pools, and children’s water slides and Sporting area on Alejova Street. This area was renovated with the cooperation of US Steel Košice and now offers excellent facilities for sporting and leisure time for people of all ages.

The Košice-South city district can be proud of “Relax”, its modern modern Community-leisure time center located at number 4 Milosrdenstva Street. Local “Southerners” can take advantage of weight-lifting facilities, skittle grounds and internet as well as participate in tennis, table tennis and bowling. For moments of rest there are swimming pools with water massage. The “Relax” center spaces serve both children and young people, middle aged folks as well as women on maternity leave, who gather at the South Mother’s Center.
